Our History
A Rich Educational Heritage
While the Eminata Group was established in 1995, our history dates back almost 50 years.
Control Data Corporation, the precursor to CDI College, emerged in the technology boom of the late 1950s. In 1961, Reeves College opened its doors in Lloydminster, Alberta and quickly earned a reputation for producing highly-skilled business administrative professionals. Control Data Inc launched the first CDI College in Toronto in 1969 and by the 1970s, Control Data opened a number of CDI Career Development institutes across Canada.
Vancouver Career College grew out of Careers Inc. in the mid-1990s and soon opened campuses across British Columbia. In 2002, PCU College of Holistic Medicine opened in Burnaby.
The Eminata Group purchased Reeves College in Alberta in 2003 and opened five additional campuses across Alberta.
In 2008, CDI College joined the Eminata Group. By this time, CDI was recognized across Canada for their range of programs in the healthcare, business and technology fields. By November, University Canada West had joined the Eminata Group as well. A few months later, the Visual College of Art and Design began offering applied design programs at the campus in Vancouver.
Today, the Eminata Group is a postsecondary network that stretches across Canada and employs over 1200 instructors, administrators and support staff. We currently operate 35 campuses in five Canadian provinces and occupy 1 million square feet in classroom and administrative space. We also have more than 150,000 alumni in 60-plus countries around the world.
